I gave this young girl some change and asked if I could take her photograph. I hoped that the passersby kept passing by because they saw me with the camera ...
Did you talk to her? I get my head in such a muddle over giving to the homeless - partly because it is a fact that many of the beggars around our town are not actually homeless. I have read many times though , that what the homeless really appreciate is being noticed and acknowledged. Well done - I hope she liked having her photo taken.
@helenhall Yes, but not for long. I don't think anyone that young would have been doing what she's doing unless she felt she had no choice, especially in this recent weather. We exchanged names but I didn't linger as I felt I was putting people off from helping her. So sad.
A tragic situation with no doubt a story behind it. I have met too many charlatans, but there are still the genuine cases out there. Brilliant street shot
Excellent shot, tells an all too common tale. I never know quite what to do about homeless people. Not many in Geelong, but Melbourne's got heaps of them now.
Lots of people here in this shot - nobody is blurred though! This girl probably has heard that you can make more from looking sad on a street and saying you haven't had a meal for days...etc..etc than actually getting a job!
I like the sense of movement in your street shot. I cannot imagine anyone would do anything so demeaning as sit on the street and beg for money unless they really had to - depressing in itself.
Great street shot.
