This was a bit of weekend fun which ended up taking much much longer than I thought it would due to me having forgotten an awful lot about layers and drop shadows. I set the challenge of Transport for Composite 17 and there are five very good entries but from only three people. So although I obviously can't enter this challenge, I thought I'd have a faff about to try and drum up a little more interest as it closes in a week's time. Am afraid have got behind on commenting due to the faffing, hope to catch up soon.
The owl picture is mine but the background with kayak (Mark Bosky), the cat (Uriel Soberanes) and the honey pot (Amelia Bartlett) were stock pictures from Unsplash.
What fun and creative. I always find getting the direction of the sun right. It looks from the kayak as if the sun is coming from overhead viewer's right but the cat would need more light if that were so and on the wonderful owl it looks as if the sun is coming from above viewer's left. Fave for how delightful it is though
@jgpittenger Oh Jane, you would not believe the headache the drop shadow gave me ... the original picture of the girl in the kayak (who was removed) had a very slight shadow to the rear so I went with that. Did learn an awful lot about refining edges though as well as shadows so it was a good experience. Thanks v much for the feedback and fav, will remember that next time - do have a go at this challenge if you get the chance:)
I think you got the sizes about right and your masks are cleaner than I have been able to do. I have a hard time getting that shadow right also. Coincidentally, I have been working on a composite all afternoon.
that is such a great idea, with so many details - and the light and shadows are such nightmares to get right - last composites I did I set all the layers up in the same conditions.
I admire the effort and thought that you have put into this - and the results are very good. I certainly don't have the skills to carry it off, but would love to find time to practice.
"The Owl and the Pussycat went to sea
In a beautiful pea green boat
They took some honey, and lots of money,
Wrapped up in a £5 note"
By the time I'd added the honey I'd spent way too much time already on this, so bypassed the money and the £5 note:)
