My enthusiasm returned somewhat when I saw that the Nifty Fifty SOOC challenge had returned. This was a last minute shot on the way home this evening and despite upping the ISO, I'm quite disappointed in it. No need to comment, I'm posting this as I feel if I don't post something soon, I will stop altogether, and I really don't want to do that. Hopefully by the end of the month the standard will have improved, can't really get much worse!
Oh Felicity - I am with you in the sentiment. I haven't anything worth posting, but agree that if I don't do something soon, I might stop altogether. I thought about joining in the challenge but am not sure how I get 50 mm on my camera with a fixed zoom.
I find this shot intriguing because of the missing detail. Looks like a big head, ready to swallow up whatever comes its way!
@helenhall Oh Helen, am so glad I'm not the only one - I feel as if I just don't 'see' subjects any more. Richard will be able to help you re your lens. I'm using a Micro Nikkor which I've used previously but am finding using my feet rather than the lens challenging.
@fbailey I know exactly what you mean when you way you don't 'see' subjects. I have to be in the right mindset - first to even look, and then to see. I can go out and walk for an hour, but not even get the camera out because I haven't seen anything. Other times, I just cant put it away. Strange.
This is great, Felicity. Did you use a tripod? Perhaps an even slower shutter speed would bring out more details. @fbailey@helenhall I know what you both mean about the challenge of posting.I find that I am just getting too much of a critic of my own work and am loathe to post anything that does not meet my standards.
I am also loathe to post a regular diary shot because I think that no one is interested.
I have to remind myself that it isn't 365 masterpieces, but 365 photos. And, I also have to remind myself that it is my project, and my rules, so if I don't want to post everyday - that is okay as well.
The big thing is to enjoy yourself and your photography. Stop posting if it is no longer fun and becomes a chore.
365 will still be here when it gets fun again and you return from your break (and I know it will!!)
@farmreporter Thanks Wendy. I was hoping for a good sunset but it didn't happen and this was a 'stress' shot hand held. Good point about the tripod, didn't occur to me to take it with me. I haven't managed to complete a whole month since March. Am def getting much pickier too although this submission belies that fact!
I actually like this. Just enough of hints of detail to be intriguing.
We all have down days, sometimes weeks or months. I nearly didn't start doing this again when my 12 months was up, but I find it forces me to think. Sometimes I just take a picture of something, anything, just to get something to post, but once in a while a picture I take makes me go wow (yesterday's dragonfly was one) which gives me a boost and makes me realise that without 365 I probably wouldn't have got it ☺
Keep positive this photo is good as a silhouette regarding photos enter some of your older photos nobody minds, the challenges and themes can be quite hard I like this photo anyway FAV:)
But FB - this is a nice, ghostly abstract -and it is sooc for your nf-sooc month too..Would you have been able to make it even darker and remove the detail from the large vertical section in your camera- I think that would have made it even better. Your photos are so fabulous but it sounds like you are putting too much pressure on yourself - why not just wander with you and your camera, play with some settings, and just snap some weird stuff and see what happens! Anyway - you simply can't disappear - who would I ask for help. And we wouldn't get to see your little girl as she gets older and more accomplished! Cheers Rob
Have you thought about doing Get Pushed for a while? I found that when I was floundering, it helped me to have someone else tell me what to look for! Just a thought. Although you should only carry on if it’s still fun, it would be such a shame for you to leave as you have such a great eye. As Wendy says, it’s not about masterpieces, it’s about finding a shot that either means something to you or is just pleasing to the eye.
Sometimes it helps to combine this project with another - I like Brian Peterson's "You Keep Shooting." He is a bit crazy and very inspiring. Please hang in there - I love your work and especially enjoy your IR because I don't do any of that. I also appreciate your nice comments:)
ahhhh we can be our own worst enemies can't we!
call this a learning opportunity and have a laugh - I'm glad you posted it because you are incredibly talented.
I get what you mean about wanting to post images that meet a standard, I probably drive myself a little crazy with that one!
just look at the awesome discussion this image has created - well worth posting!
Felicity, this is such an interesting shot that has great atmosphere. I relate to how you are feeling - I’ve lost my pho-jo of late too. We are having a late summer break in Derbyshire and the change of scene is helping to restore some enthusiasm! Maybe I just need to get out more!! Do keep going, even if you don’t post every day - I had to take that pressure off myself or I would have given up.
This shot reflects the mood you are in. This emptiness before ... come closer and you will see the details. Enter the competition and you will see the further path. Sometimes it's difficult but let's go ahead.
Wow - I agree with all of the above... 365 can be draining invigorating exasperating & inspiring. You have inspired me & I have learned from you . Please take the time you need
Don't worry about the gaps. Just chill and enjoy... failed experiments are acceptable. If the malaise continues then I'd recommend a break.. I've taken lots of them, told myself that's enough of 365 ... and usually come back refreshed.
