Today was the annual church spring clean. Now whether or not you are a church-goer I strongly recommend this, it's great to poke around in ancient corners and get close up to really old stuff...plus you get a cup of tea and a biscuit.
Our village church dates back around 600 years but most of the wood I beeswaxed today is apparently Victorian, and beautiful craftsmanship of a bygone era. I was polishing away and looked up, seeing this huge window over the altar and realised how simply I could manage a photo of stained glass / window / arch and fill the gap for 10th plus get 3 label-for-april points..!
It was quite bright this morning, so I darkened the exposure and brightened it up in Picasa rather than lose the detail in the shot. Alas I couldn't find a free-standing ladder - it towered over us all so it's a bit wonked...squint and tilt your head back slightly and it'll improve.
Busy shifting furniture around and trying to find the carpet in a teenager's bedroom today- I can't tell you how wonderful it has been to come down occasionally, have a cuppa and drift off into your worlds through your fabulous photos. Thank you for all of them - and for calling by here too :)
Why do we not in modern times ever create beautiful art work or decorations like this? Thank goodness we preserve the old stuff, it would be a dull place otherwise. I love your story too and can just smell the beeswax and candles...aaah...peaceful bliss!
