An American version of Irish scones and coffee. I always equated scones with Scotland, didn't realize there was an Irish version, till I found this recipe. Then I had to put my American spin on it by adding coconut and almonds and a teaspoon of cardamom. I dont drink coffee, but my husband does. This was his breakfast, I just had juice with my scone.
Looks a tasty treat. Living in the U.K. I have never considered scones as being from Scotland or Ireland but ask for a cream tea anywhere and you will be served Scone, cream, jam, butter and a pot of tea. Some arguments about which you should layer first especially in the West Country between Devon and Cornwall. The cream in the West is often clotted cream. Savoury versions are also done but without the cream and jam (jelly or is it jello).
@wakelys Susan, thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I love learning about other cultures. Now I want to have a scone with some cream. I usually just have jam, nothing more on a scone.
