For get-pushed challenge from Lisa Poland to " try to take a picture of the moon or another night shot." First one I ever took that shows some bit of detail! After the weird accidents, I took off the polarizer and reduced the number of moons to 2. Finally I figured out to decrease the exposure way way way down. Still not clear on why I was getting a second greenish moon.
@homeschoolmom Got lucky with a clear night last night. We've been having rain rain rain and now the clouds are back. I think this is the first moon shot I've ever gotten. The weird but cool accidents I posted on the last two days in this album.
Super details. Are you using a tripod? There could slight movement if you are doing this handheld, thus causing the second moon. I usually take my moon shots handheld but I lean against a wall or something solid to help with stability (partly because I am too lazy to get the tripod out!)
Very impressive Francoise. Next time try increasing Your ISO and decreasing your exposure. I think that is what I do ;~} When it is a full moon especially. There is really a lot of reflected light then.
This looks pretty good! Here's what I do when I take mine- ISO 200 (which you did); AV mode on the camera (not sure if you did that); and daylight setting for the light (which it looks like you did do). I always use a tripod and when I'm really being super sensitive about camera movement, I'll use the 10 second timer. Most of the time I do not need to do that though. I've experimented with the lighting using the tungsten (turns the moon blue) and fluorescent (makes the moon yellow). And when I think no one wants to see yet another plain moon shot or the picture is not clear, I go crazy with the post processing! Good moon shot!
point and shoot is what you need to get a good close up details of the moon! :-P nice shot. about the second moon, if you are using a UV filter on your dslr, it's a good idea to take that off, too. whenever i take night shots, i take out my polarizer or UV filter or whatever else i'm using because they produce ghosts of the lit images. green moon? maybe there are really martians roaming the universe!
