The weather was beautiful today in San Antonio so I decided to jump out of my comfort zone and head downtown to shoot photos. I visited the indoor and outdoor marketplaces . . . these dancers were performing at the indoor marketplace. The motion of the dancers pulled me in.
So fabulous! The movement in the skirts is beautiful. It also makes me aware of the massive amounts of fabric in those skirts, they must be heavy to wear.
I can confirm those dresses being heavy. I try to learn flamenco dancing and own a skirt, even that one is pretty heavy to wear. As for the shot, I love it! It is something on my bucket list, to get those beautiful dresses swirling like that. Great capture and it looked like a lot of fun too!
@muriel Thank you so much for your comments, Muriel! I think learning flamenco dancing would be quite exciting! This was definitely a fun shooting experience! :-)
How lovely to have met up with you *in New Zealand*, Gayle! I see you're somewhat new to 365, but already you're posting some lovely photos! You captured this action shot beautifully! I'm following in the hope of seeing your summer life in Manitoba, as I similarly love the opportunity to photograph Nova Scotia. While not Canadians, we fell in love with that province while vacationing and it's now our retirement home.
@Weezilou Hi, Louise! So wonderful to receive your comment/message and your follow! When I read your comment about your summers in Nova Scotia I just couldn't resist commenting on the similarities with our summers in Manitoba. My husband is from Manitoba, he came to San Antonio for his MFA and fell in love with the warm climate . . . and a certain blonde he met at the university. :-) We're both retired teachers and absolutely love dividing our time living in Texas and Manitoba. I'm following your project now and look forward to your beautiful Nova Scotia photos. Yes, I am definitely still new to 365 . . . participating in this project has not only enabled me to learn about photography on a daily basis but has broadened my perspective on life in general because of the exposure to so many places in the world I knew so little about before this project. I am loving it! :-)
@gaylewood It IS wonderful, isn't it? Truthfully, Manitoba is one of the provinces I still know little about, so I'll be on a learning curve this summer as well! It's also a joy to find others leading a similar life in their retirement years! Nearby here, in the San Diego area, is Anita (and John) Campbell who spend their summers with her family in Alberta (@aglennc ). I first connected with their daughter Linda on 365, and when Anita & John were headed to Lunenburg, Linda asked if they might come meet us! Thus began a long friendship, where, even tomorrow, we're meeting at the San Diego Wild Animal Park with about 8 other 365-photographers for a shoot and gathering (for about the 4th time, in my case). The learning skills and the new friendships have been such an unexpected return from this site, as I never sought out people on social media such as FB. Stay the course, even when you think you have nothing more to photograph...it's all so worthwhile (IMHO!)
@Weezilou I've seen Anita's comments on a lot of photos I've viewed and/or commented on . . . I've seen many of your comments also. :-) We lived in Edmonton, Alberta for 2 years . . . my husband was teaching art at the University of Alberta, our son was born in Edmonton. How wonderful to have the opportunity to meet up with other 365ers for a shoot! It is truly amazing how life works out, isn't it? I definitely plan on staying the course with this project. It has added so much fulfillment and inner satisfaction to my life that I can't imagine not waking up every morning feeling excited about the possibilities of what I might shoot that day and what I will learn about photography, because I truly have started from zero experience. I agree, so worthwhile!
This is absolutely perfect..... Love how you caught the action. The expressions on the dancers show they are surely enjoying what they are doing. Wonderful shot!
@aglennc Thank you so much for your comment, Anita! Those dancers were definitely having a good time making it very easy for the audience to catch their enthusiasm. :-)
