It looks like this roadrunner was about to run into this rock wall . . . he was actually ready to take off behind the rock wall and I was clicking away, trying to get a good shot. It is difficult getting a photo of these birds because you never know when they'll be running through the yard. Also, they run fast and rarely stop in one place for very long. I happened to be walking out the back door with my camera, heading in a different direction, and I noticed the movement. I had no time whatsoever to set up the shot . . . it isn't as clear as I'd like and I had to crop it quite a bit. Still, I'm quite happy that I somewhat crossed paths with this roadrunner today.
Congratulations on catching him at all - they're darn hard to get focused the way they move. When I finally do see one he's usually headed for the bushes as fast as he can go (and that's pretty fast!)
@milaniet Thanks for commenting, Milanie! They sure are fast . . . they can run at speeds of up to 20 mph. I saw one of your roadrunner photos from last year, the one with the lizard in his mouth. Awesome photo! :-)
Gosh, taking all the issues into account you did amazing. That is a terrific capture. I haven't seen one in a while around here. I am are they are still around, I think they have blended into the background to me. I need to make sure to watch out for one.
@woodlandsphotog Thanks so much for your comment and fav, Richard! They're so fast, it's easy to miss them. I'm still amazed I actually got this shot. Purely by chance! :-)
Awesome shot, I have never seen a roadrunner before so this is fascinating. He really is a handsome chap. I am so pleased that you have caught him and posted it.
The head has great detail thanks for the share my first view of a photo Fav.
