I can't help but chuckle at this macro shot of the bizarre-looking head of a walking stick. My husband thinks it looks like one of those inflatable stick figures outside car dealerships. :-)
Hi Gayle. - A stick insect. Strange things aren't they? I refused to buy one for my young son once for fear that they it would escape into the house never to be tracked down. I spent a while trying to work out how this could be a 'walking stick'. Is that what you call them?
@helenhall Howdy, Helen! Yes, they are definitely strange insects. We have always called them 'walking sticks' and I agree, the name can be confusing. :-)
A fascinating insect. I wasn't familiar with them, thought it resembled a praying mantis in a way, so I looked it up. Walking stick or stick insect does seem to be how they are referred to (walking stick being the name used in the US). They sound rather interesting, and one variety is the longest insect. Thanks for posting the picture, love learning new things.

Ugh! This is going to give me nightmares!
Macro shot details can sometimes be weird and disturbing...I hope this one doesn't cause too many nightmares. :-)
