Homeless in San Antonio by gaylewood

Homeless in San Antonio

I hit the downtown streets of San Antonio for photos again today. This is Manny and he is homeless . . . living on the streets or in shelters. I've become more aware of the homeless situation in San Antonio since I've been walking around the downtown streets for photos. There is an interesting twist to how I got this shot . . . Manny saw me walking up the sidewalk with my camera and HE asked ME if I wanted to take his photo. I was quite happy since it is usually the other way around.
Terrific lighting - quite cooperative subject - I think he would really like this picture. I sure do.

@milaniet I have printed out several of my other street shots (guard at The Alamo, Raspa Man, and the Barber) and gone back to give them a copy . . . they were surprised and quite pleased. I think I'll do the same for Manny . . . hopefully I'll be able to find him again. :-)

A poignant photo and one that needs to be seen more often so that everyone is aware that they should never take the little things in their lives for granted because things like a place to sleep comfortably, the ability to get a hot meal, the comfort of a nice home are anything but small to so many. Great photo and I'll say an extra prayer for him by name tonite. Thanks for a great share Gayle!

I have read somewhere that some photographers carry small photo printers https://www.amazon.com/Polaroid-Mobile-Printer-Printing-Technology/dp/B00TE8XKIS/ref=zg_bs_3109930011_2/157-5785153-3193932?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=XVSQQMN3PXYAMNARPMT9
so that they can print their pics on the spot. Might be something to consider if that is a passion for you. This is a very respectful and dignified portrait and says as much about you as about your subject. Well done.

Great image of Manny! I'm sure he'd be delighted to get a copy. He's obviously a proud man, despite his current homeless predicament.

Great street shot. Did you visit with him?

My belief is that there is a fine line between what we have and what we can lose in an instant. Everyone has a story and Manny would too.

What a great image. Goes to show we should never take things for granted.

He doesn't seem too worried about his present situation. I would have gladly taken his picture if I were there, too. You got a wonderful shot of him.

The story makes it even more interesting. I wonder if lots of people take his picture.

I like how you conveyed his situation, but did so in a way that captures his pride/dignity.

Fantastic shot of Manny! I also find the ramen noodles and the toilet paper in the background quite telling of his situation.
