A Buzzzz by glimpses

A Buzzzz

I've always been fascinated with bumblebees; they do the darndest things. And how about this: That loud, unmistakable, resonant buzz DOESN'T come from the beating of the wings (which beat 200 times per second.) The sound is actually the result of the bumblebee vibrating its flight muscles. (Don't you love it when they fly in reverse - that's how I got this little feller :p )
love the wing movement.

@brumbe Thanks, Paula. I was really hoping to get the wings doing something because I was shooting them only in flight when they went from flower to flower. Very cool. Sure felt good to behind the lens again. Take care, Les

@denisedaly Ahhh, so that's what the flower is; no wonder it was swarming with bees of all kinds! If I remember correctly, you are really good at identifying flowers. Thanks for naming this one, and for your generous comment.
