This dear fellow was in search of a mate for over a month. Because his red coloring is dull, females were not attracted to him. It was heartbreaking to hear him call from dawn to dusk from the same 3 trees with no response. Meantime, another deep-colored male House Finch acquired a mate, helped care for a brood of 5 until they left the nest........all from the same trees! But this fellow won my heart.
Addendum: This fellow finally did find a mate, which was so heartening and joyous to me, (and I have photos of his family (forthcoming.)

@jgpittenger Thanks Jane; it's a Dogwood tree where he spent a lot of time calling, and calling, and calling. And then one glorious day, he "changed his tune." He was SINGING. :))
