We Are Under Attack!!

I know this is kind of a lame picture but I am feeling stressed. We have been attempting to grow corn with marginal (pathetic) success for a few years now. But this year some terrorist varmint is laying waste to our crop. Whatever it is just rips down the stalk and chews this TINY INSIGNIFICANT amount of the stalk and leaves the rest lying there to taunt and distress us... (You can see two discarded stalks lying in in the background.) So my husband rigged up this desperation protector for the last two. Now we wait. (and plant some more seeds!) I'll keep you posted...
well, that sucks! :(

You need one of those "nanny cams" to see if you can catch the varmit in action! I know that's a little extreme for two stalks of corn... ...may I be a know-it-all-sticky-beak? Do you know that corn should be planted in a couple of rows so it can cross polinate and you can actually get ears of corn? Google would probably have more information. I only mention it as you seem to want some success, and you have a far better chance if you plant it that way. The rest of the problem there I can't help you with...darn it all!
