The New Old Florida

The Columbia Restaurant is something of a landmark in Ybor City. It has been serving the best in Spanish cuisine to the Tampa area since 1905 and is actually the story behind my own parents "song" - I believe that was an evening around the time that I was born! :-) I have never actually been to it....well the original anyway. They now have a satellite version at the new Tampa History Museum down along the new (and lovely) Riverwalk area. We stopped for lunch and some sangria with a view on our day of biking. You can tell the condos on the distant shore (aka Harbor Island) are new. But it still felt like a touch of old Florida. The one that was here before Disney and the strip mall took over....

Full Disclosure: My friend Kelli actually took this picture. I posed the pitcher and glasses (and tiny bull) but then realized there was no way to crop out the other tourists eating their Cuban sandwiches in the background from my angle... :)
