Ok, so this is a *really far away* picture of my oldest in his first official Spelling Bee today. He managed to end up in 5th place which I think is pretty darned good for his first try! (Considering he didn't bother to tell me it was happening until Monday - and didn't start studying the word list until after that...)
The word that tripped him up was "pontiff" - which my Dad and I - both raised Catholic - admitted we would have spelled the same wrong way as Finn (with one f!) So apparently it is genetic - the boy didn't stand a chance! ;)
Still so proud of him. He had a great time and admits he really wants to win next year.
