The only birds I've ever seen on our thistle sock are the Pine Siskins and Goldfinches and maybe an occasional Chickadee. So I was a little surprised to see this Red-bellied Woodpecker land there today. They visit a lot but usually make a beeline right for the suet. I get the distinct feeling this was not his plan. It was pretty funny watching him try to negotiate the squishy netting though. If it is possible for a bird to look confused, he pulled it off! :-)
