I think the birdhouse is only supposed to be for decoration - but don't tell that to Mr. House Wren who decided this weekend that it would make a fabulous spot for a nest. He spent all day Saturday gathering sticks and spider webs and all kinds of things and fairly ingeniously fit them all through that tiny hole. He worked his little feathers off and by Sunday he was officially on the market and spent all day (and I mean that literally!) singing up a storm, extolling the virtues of his hard work and trying to find a nice lady bird to share it with.
It took until this morning, but he seems to have found a partner who likes his nest as much as he does. Together the two of them have been finishing things off, making it cozy, and all the while chatting up a storm. I wish them all the best - and since this is the view out my kitchen window you KNOW you're going to see them again here....
*David took some fantastic pictures of the little guy singing his heart out yesterday and I'm hoping he might consider using them to restart his own 365 project (hint hint!!) ;-)
