Day off, and more sunshine. I have been wondering around doing this and that but not been inspired photographically despite the welcome sunshine. I often look at this knarled trunk on the edge of Russell park, wondering if I could make a photo of it. Hoping for more inspiration tomorrow.
Well composed with plenty of texture to hold attention. The white sky is a distraction, but unless you can pull back detail in will not be a successful image. There are few ways I would tackle this! Firstly it might look better in monochrome, but don't just hit grayscale on Photoshop, or change to B&W on Lightroom. Try changing the colour channels to alter the image to get a fell range of tones. Consider cropping out the sky! Although in this instance you will loose the composition. Try taking 3 separate images (preferably using a tripod) one under exposed, one correct exposure and one over exposed. Then combine the three images in PS or LR or stand alone software into a HDR (high Dynamic Range) image which by nature will have the full range of tones. Finally take your shot from a different vantage point that excludes the sky! If I have mentioned before about shooting in RAW you will remember that you have a greater range to manipulate with! Good luck!
@marshwader thanks for the comment. I tried a different take on it today, but in the rain and going for a different angle. I agree with your criticism and the suggestions are helpful. Another pic may show up later in the week.
