Grey squirrel in Autumn Colours

It always surprises me how much red colouring the grey squirrel has. But this is most definitely of the former species. In my mini research though, I have discovered that Bedfordshire (in common with just a few surrounding counties) is also home to the Black squirrel. I have certainly never heard of or seen such a thing.

I noticed a coarse squawking in the hawthorn trees above my path and tracked it to find this fellow looking down upon me and continuing to make a significant racket. I must be getting a little more tuned to nature, as the other day I managed to find a robin singing his heart out from isolating the more beautiful chirping noise. it is all a matter of patience.

I am unlikely to be taking photos this week. Things have all got rather pressurised (including my eye which undergoes repeat laser treatment tomorrow - so I really look forward to that!) and so I have decided to ease the pressure as much as I can. I will be going back over my hoard from the last week or so to post, just until I get back on my feet again. Unless, of course, something just cries out at me to be taken.
Superb FAV!

Great shot of this lovely squirrel Fav We had a couple of black ones that used to visit our garden but I haven't seen them for ages - it will be interesting to see whether they appear when the weather gets colder. I hope you feel better soon

Brilliant shot. We have lots of grey squirrels in the woodlands around work, but they are too quick! I'd need to have nuts and stuff to try and lure them out. One of these days...

@wag864 thank you Kas. This one actually stayed on this branch for quite a while - but not exactly still! I was in London the day before and they were much faster off the mark there.

@rosiekind thank you Rosie. Interesting to know that you have seen black squirrels. I never even knew they existed before today.

What a fantastic capture. I've tried a few times with squirrels, but haven't got it quite right. Good for you. Fav!

so cute!
Here in Germany the grey squirrels are very rare- though I don't mind, I love the red ones with the fuzzy ears 😀

Great shot, I have mixed feelings about the grey. Cute. Great in parks but not when they get into your garden, as they are an invasive pest. I think the black is a super variant of the grey. Oh a fav for the picture.

Fantastic photo Helen, especially with the hawthorn berries in the background, making it a truly autumnal shot.

Hope all has gone well with your treatment today and you are soon feeling back to normal.
