Finding different Aspects by helenhall

Finding different Aspects

Very early on during my time of house building in the West bank, I encountered one of my biggest challenges, that was to continue through the fortnight. The young children would crowd around asking and asking if they could borrow a camera to take 'just one' picture. I would look at their cement ridden fingers and consider their lack of caution and inexperience in handling a camera, and fear that the one possession that brings me most joy would not survive each encounter with an enthusiastic child. Yet I was unable to refuse when they were getting so much pleasure.

Thankfully, the camera came to no harm, but right at the start, some of the settings got changed and the one that I was unable to change back was the Aspect ratio. I knew that it was no longer in my usual format, but had no idea how to change it.

Only today, when I was once again searching for an option on the settings that I had not yet explored, did I find the Aspect Ratio setting hidden away. I also discovered that contrary to my former belief, I am able to take photos in 1:1 format.

So I looked for a photo that would suit that format for today's offering. Strangely enough, I found myself drawn to this discarded paint/tar container.
cool find, square format is wonderful for composition, you will know to go back with a cheapie camera!

Nice story. Way back when, I traveled to SE Asia, and took my regular camera and a poloroid. Everyone was fascinated. I was always surrounded by many people, passing out poloroid photos.

Photography is fascinating to children. I think it's the instantaneous result- especially in digital. I'm glad you were able to right your camera again but as Kali says the square format is really great to work with when you want to work on composition. You chose an excellent subject for it. Good shot!
