Riverside North: A glimpse of St Pauls

I want to take you on a little journey around Riverside North in Bedford. it is a controversial development on the riverside which was been accused as an architectural disaster, a waste of money, a missed opportunity, a political statement and a notable blunder by the local council resulting in the 'ugliest' bridge put deceitfully in place of an elegant glass bridge which was shown on the architect's drawings. We do like a bit of controversy in Bedford. I found this rather upbeat article in a local on line paper which attempted to paint a positive picture two years ago . http://thebedfordclanger.com/2015/riverside-north/

The finishing touches are now being undertaken and with the pedestrian bridge newly opened and the riverside walkway once more accessible after two years of development, I took a walk on Friday to judge for myself.

For all that, you have made it frame this spire rather nicely.

I like the contrast of buildings here. Enjoyed the article and the name of the paper. There will always be resistance to change or something different.

Very interest shot full of contrasts. Like your composition.

Lovely composition. At least they haven't yet demolished all of the old to make way for the new.
Interesting article, it could be talking about Newcastle (NSW). They are spending over $400 million, 'revitalising' about a 2 km area of Newcastle East. The only ones to gain I suspect are the fat pocketed developers.

The modern and the old. Nice photo.

Brilliant framing!

Love the natural framing.. this looks deceptively simple but on close inspection is quite complex. good shot..

I must admit I am one of the people who doesn't like what they have done. It reminds me of the disastrous building done in the 60s much of which has been demolished.

@helenm2016 thank you Helen. I took my time to get the best I could.
@adayinmallacoota thank you Belinda I am glad you enjoyed the link. The Bedfordshire Clanger is a pasry with meat one end and sweet filling the other.
@redandwhite thank you Catherine for you nice compliment.
@onewing the old town hall was demolished - but it was not a building of any note. Most of the complex has covered a car park. There is nothing of great cultural or local interest within the new development - just more commercialism.
@moonmtn Yes, at least at this particular spot, the old has been welcomed in as part of the scene.
@leestevo thank you!
@kwind much appreciated compliment
@jorlam thank you for noting the details
@rosiekind Rosie I can't say I am keen, although I tried to find things of interest. The bridge is a monstrosity in my opinion.

I like how you composed this photo, Helen...excellent framing. I enjoyed reading the article and also browsed through some of the other links within the online paper. One of the things I enjoy most about 365 is being exposed to what's happening in other countries...not just reading/viewing it on the news but getting the inside 'scoop' from individuals living in the communities. :-)

@gaylewood I so agree. It is always rewarding when I have the time to follow links and research and learn new things on account of what people post. It feels as though I am broadening horizons all the time.

Love the composition of this. And the beautiful shades of blue.
