Nancy Burkert's 'Wompanoag Woman: Coat of Feathers'

All credit to Nancy Burkert, (the original illustrator of Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach) for this most beautiful creation. It is housed in the Mashpee Wampanoag Museum and my task was to try and get an image of the horizontally laid picture within a glass cabinet.

Alice - the woman depicted - was Mashpee Wampanoag Tribes housing director, and is dressed in traditional clothing and jewelry and wearing a cape of turkey feathers.

This tiny little museum in Mashpee was a wonderful place to start our visit to Cape Cod, to gain a sense of history from which to contextualise our onward exploration.
Great image of a great image!
