We rushed through the metro to get to the Gugenheim, walking across Central Park, only to find that it was too late to go in. Had 15 minutes to take in the main hall and as we were leaving I couldn't resist the temptation to abandon husband and father in law and run across the highway to grab a couple of shots of the sun setting over the lake.
I'm hoping that you will accept this as a panorama for the last of the One Week Only challenge. Looking at the efforts others have been to in lining up photos and stitching them together makes me realise that this is a cheat, since it has merely been cropped as a panoramic shot. I rarely use the panorama function on my camera as too often the refults look poor as I have not moved the camera at a steady rate. And I am far too lazy to try anything else - especially with no tripod.
So here it is, and thank you So much to @summerfield for the insentive to get me through my holiday shots. Actually, believe it or not, this task is still not yet complete and I have a funny feeling it is going to occupy a fair few more hours.
Now, all this talk of bokeh, and long exposure, of movement and low-key, has made me anxious to get my camera out again and learn a few more tricks. I thought perhaps I would set myself a SWA challenge (Second Week Actually) in which I could get going on practicing some of these techniques for real.
I LOVE this! The subtlety the sunset gives the colours of the sky, the mirroring of the colours in the lake and the silhouette of the skyline make a really dramatic photo. Looks like a panorama to me!
Fabulous silhouette of the city. I just love this shot. considering your limited time for photography while you were away, you have captured some memorable scenes. fav.
It looks pretty panoramic to me and however you got it is immaterial. I love the silhouette of the city. I’m jealous you’re in NYC. There are so many photo ops.
i think that whether a pano shot is just one click or several and stitched together, the end result of showing the whole view is what matters. as you were digging into your holiday photos, it's amazing that you can find a shot that fits just right for the prompt. that is why i encouraged you to do it. basically, the purpose of the challenge is to get a photo whether you are comfortable with the prompt or not. in your case though was to find a photo in response to the prompt. i wouldn't call it cheating.
@summerfield apologies for my delay - when you have taken so much care to follow everyone who took part in your wonderful challenge. I intend to return to the themes again - as soon as I can get a bit of space with my camera (it is looking like that might be next year) Thank you for your encouragement, which is very much valued. I know I need to be stretched - but not stressed - and the encouragement on this site from the more experienced and (as I regard them) expert photographers, is a real boost.
