Good for the Soul

Its language is a language which the soul alone understands, but which the soul can never translate. ~Arnold Bennett

The best thing you can possibly do when suffering from the misery of a failed mission, from the melonchony of an ill spent day or the stress of challenges left unmet, is listen to live music.

And should it be, that for a brief moment, you raise the camera and take a quick snapshot to remember how good that music was for the soul that night, then all the better for it.

Possibly not any of the four categories of portraiture lighting listed in the week's technical challenge - but it is the best entry I have for the challenge this week. Clearly it is a challenge that I need to come back to.

Freds House is the band. They know how to bring the house down. And they are the only band that I know that can sing a song about depression that cheers you up.

Beautifully clear and bright for what I guess was a dark venue.

I love the music any which way - live means expense but so real compared to a CD! She looks like she's putting it all into her song!

I don't know what the assignment was, but I think this is a great portrait. You have captured so much emotion in her face!

oh wow. only just saw this for some reason. it can't possibly be described as a 'quick snapshot' - it's so clear against that dramatic black background, and full of emotion and depth. i love the song too, so thanks for the link - shall check out more from this band

I would say it qualifies for split lighting, it's a fabulous shot Helen, very nicely exposed.
