One every two years, some 300,000 people descend on the part of Bedford town where I live for the River Festival. For two days, the Embankment and local park is flooded with food outlets, throbbing with live bands, buzzing with excitement and promises all the fun of the fair and excitement of river parades, road parades, demonstrations and a host of other activities.
It has to either be embraced, or escaped by the local residents.
A highlight, is the late evening Fireworks on Saturday night. Always a good display. I started to look up how to photograph fireworks, but it all seemed impossible and so it was a case of switching to the hand held night time function on my camera and hoping for the best. Results were mediocre - too much smoke in the still air and too difficult to get a good vantage point.
It's been a while since I "seriously" photographed fireworks. The last ones I saw I ended up doing the same thing with the firework setting on my point and shoot. Not bad!
