Hibiscus by helenhall

Hibiscus

Planted in 1968 but still only 5ft tall. Presented on the first visit of a family friend from where we previously lived in Sutton Cold Field, who came with her daughter. Dad remembers the visit, and this gift very well.

I had hoped to have been able to bring you something different by now, as I am not greatly inspired by images of garden flowers, although I am certainly happy to enjoy them in the 'flesh'. Sadly, I do not have green fingers. We tried our hardest in the garden this summer, but something seems to have gone wrong with the bedding plants these last few days, I simply touched two of the pansies and one of the geraniums as I was watering them this evening, and thinking of dead heading them, and the plants detached them selves effortlessly from the ground in their entirety. What, with the one I pulled out accidentally whilst weeding, I am not sure there will be anything left but the bare soil we started with come the end of the summer.

The cabbages and leeks seem to be coming along ok at the moment though. And the honeysuckle we planted is not dead yet. So all is not lost.

Oh dear - I can sympathise with your efforts. Sometimes gardens are best left to themselves! This flower is such a beautiful colour!

Well done with this beautiful flower. A smile re your gardening efforts. Just as well Geraniums are hardy. Wack it back into the ground and it will thrive.

I had to laugh at your narrative, I'm a hopeless gardener. This flower is beautiful, gorgeous colour

Lovely purples! We just hooked up the garden hoses so the pitiful plants we currently have growing (planted by a gardener in advance of our getting to the island) seem a little happier tonight.

Love the colours what a gorgeous flower. I am not a gardener either, luckily David covers that area of our household.

Great colours and droplets.

That's beautiful. I think the plants are suffering because of the drought! However, heavy rain is forecast for Wednesday so they should get a good drink but it will probably squash them all down then. It's never quite right, is it?

i don't know if i have green thumb or not. i had an apartment where i was able to grow rosemary and other herbs from seeds; roses from cuttings and bonsai plants; my place was like a forest. then i came to this apartment, with basically the same kind of lighting and even wider windows and i kill a perfectly good plant in under 2 days. maybe it is that my heart's not in it, or probably my magic just disappeared! i like the purple shade of this hibiscus. aces!
