Dad is working his way through his 10" long playing record collection as he takes a rest during the day. At little more than 10 mins play time each side, I have to keep my witts about me to be ready to turn the record over at the right time.
I would like to have listened with him today, as he chose these two discs which he told me that he and Mum used to play every Christmas day. Alas, he wears the headphones in order to hear the music clearly and so I shall have to wait until another time when I can play the discs for myself and see if any childhood memories are rekindled.
My mother was gifted a specially built amplifier which was made by a Swiss engineer friend of hers to a very high specification.
Still got three record players, and apart from my own collection, seem to attract other unwanted collections from family members who know I still have a turntable.
I’ve have ended up with all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff.
Not as convenient as electronic methods of listening, but it sounds far better.
@dutchothotmailcom uhfortunately not. Tha amplifier sits in his 'south wing' (named in jest). It is weighted with sand and in no way portable . Dad has a new turntable in his bedroom. At first he refused to accept it, but then he realised tge sound wasnt so bad through a good pair of headphones.
A touching photo. So glad that your dad is able to enjoy the old records. We also have a ton of great albums in the basement but no turntable to enjoy them with.
