Public Service Announcement

Here's how to get rid of dangerous icicles in 3 easy steps:
Step 1: Locate giant icicle hanging on your house!
Step 2: Stand back at a safe distance and throw a football at it.
Step 3: Take picture of it laying on ground.

There could be a Step 4: Weigh chunk that remains intact to see how much it weighs. In our case it weighed 22 pounds and was 3 feet long!
Yikes! That's a crazy amount of ice!!!

@luvmynynix The trees were all sparkling as the sun finally dipped below the clouds at sunset. Apparently we got some freezing rain last night.

Mission accomplished - a very well done and very well captured!

@swilde I had several attempts to capture it. She missed several times! LOL!
@bront It was actually just above freezing, although that is the warmest it has been all winter here.
@therubysusan @annika82 Hahahaha! The sticky chicken it still stuck to the ceiling! and is about 3 inches long. I don't think it would have made a difference. Parts of that icicle were 5 inches thick.

@markp LOL! Close to it. That's why we knocked it down. We were afraid it would fall on someone.
@dh Definitely not!
@pixiemac @tremerryn Thanks!
@digitalrn The closest window was quite a ways away thankfully.
