What is it?

I have no idea what these are? They were on the split rail fence at House-in-the-Horseshoe when I went there today. Not sure if they are young plants to some kind of squash or pumpkin or if they are the blooms for them. There were some football sized green vegetable on the fence as well. But, I've never seen those before either, but I'm guessing they are some kind of squash or gourd from the small garden nearby that was recently harvested. I'm using this as filler from our move.
