New River Gorge Bridge in southern WV is over 3,000 feet across and almost 900 feet above the New River below. It's famous for Bridge Day, which occurs every October (canceled this year). They close the bridge for a festival that allows seasoned (and documented) enthusiasts to base jump and rappel off the bridge. My husband wanted to do this when we were in college. While he had the hours of rappelling in ROTC to qualify, he had not documented those hours and that is the required. So, for now, he has to be content to drive across the bridge. This picture was taken at the bridge's overlook by the visitor center.
