Marquetry by if1

Marquetry

035 - Marquetry (also spelled as marqueterie) is defined as "the art and craft of applying pieces of veneer to a structure to form decorative patterns, designs or pictures".

My dad was a keen fan of the art, and produced numerous pictures. Some of these now decorate our house, including this picture . It shows the view through an arch and down Cornforth Hill in Richmond, North Yorkshire.

Somewhere in my transparency archive I have a photo of the same view. It is fascinating to compare photo and marquetry, and impressive how realistic the marquetry looks.
Yes, and a great impression of going down the hill.
