144 - Yes I know it's only 48 hours since I posted an evening sky shot, but I found this evening's sky so beautiful that I hoped that you wouldn't mind too much if I posted another!
I travelled by train from Doncaster to York, and spent most of the half hour journey watching the clouds, the patterns of light made by the suns rays, and as we approached York, this flash of bright colours in the clouds. So as soon as I was off the train and could get a clear view, several shots of it were taken.
I presume the cause is the same as that which creates a halo around the sun - thin very high cirrus cloud containing millions of ice crystals refracting the sunlight. If I'm wrong, I'm sure one of you will be able to give me the real explanation!
Thank you Shannon - I haven't heard that term before, but looking it up on the internet and it's exactly what I saw.
