356 - Having read the comment by Tony ( @tonydebont ) on yesterday's shot, I thought it would be interesting to share with you earlier versions of this image.
The top left frame is SOOC and is the middle exposure of three taken for the HDR shot. The other two were at +1 and -1 stop.
The top right and bottom two images represent three different methods of HDR processing.
The bottom right image was the one I chose to convert to black and white for yesterday's post.
The other thing that would have been worth trying was to use selective colour to leave the telephone box red and the rest of the image black and white. I've not yet used selective colour, so I'll leave that experiment for another day.
Thanks. One pic was enough for me. Difficult to make a choose. From this collage top right and bottom left are my fav. But between color and B+W ? I don`t know , I guest the red box will do
Very interesting to see (and read). It's all so subjective in the end that everyone will have different and equally valid takes on it.
So here's mine! I think the colour and B&W versions are equally effective in different ways nd ultimately it will just depend on what mood you wish to create and what you wish to be the main object in the frame. B&W slightly diminishes the phone box and the colour versions accentuate it.
Selective colour has a place but I am not convinced this is it. The red box stands out very well in the colour version anyway.
To me, what the exposure differences mainly highlight here are the differences in emphasis in the tones and textures in the stonework.
I've said more than enough and many will no doubt disagree with what I have said possibly yourself included. Go with your gut instinct!
Nicely presented, the bottom right brings out the most detail of the stonework near the telephone box. I like it in this form with the colour still there. The sky in bottom left is brightest. Any of them would suit my taste but bottom right as is would be my favourite.
Thank you for sharing all of this Ian. It's interesting to see the different images and to read your comments. I'm slowly absorbing all of these new ideas for future reference. I think I prefer the bottom right because of the detail, but I also like the brightness of the bottom left image.
Thank you Steviepix, it's good to hear your views. I've found this an interesting experiment. I think I need to leave it a few days now and then come back to these shots to clarify what I've learned and what I like (and dislike!)
Thank you Tony - I was quite happy to do this to help in the comparison that I'm trying to do. I'm not sure which I prefer - I think it depends on the context where I want too use the shot.
Thank you Marg - I can't really choose my own favourite yet, so I'm leaving them for a few days before I review what I like and what I've learnt from this experiment.
Thank you Malc - I think each image has positives and negatives, so I'm leaving them now for a few days before I review what I've learned and what I like and dislike
Thank you Molly - I think HDR is a useful tool and I've been playing with it for a few months now. There is still a lot to learn about it, and in some circumstances it can really enrich an image, although most of the time I still use SOOC with an occasional crop.

Sorry to have created all this work for you 8-)
Thank you Howard, glad you like it.
Thank you Bob - I'm intending to have a go with selective colour on this, but I need to learn how to do selective colour using The Gimp first.
Thank you Hazel - I've been playing with HDR for several months and there is still a lot to learn! I'm glad that you like the results.
Thank you Lee - it's been an interesting experiment, and I'm still not sure which I prefer. They all have some positives and negatives.
Thank you Judith - I still can't decide which I like best!
Thank you Pyrrhula - I did a collage to make it possible to compare different processing, and I'm not sure which I like best.

Thank you Vesna - the boldest colours are in the SOOC shot, so I'm not surprised that you like that one!

Thank you Brian - I'm glad you enjoyed the comparison.

Thank you Caren - I have a different favourite each time I look!
Thank you Ann, I'm glad that you like them!
