Allaire Village State Park by illinilass

Allaire Village State Park

It is the restored village of the Howell Iron Works. James Allaire of New York City purchased the 5000 acre property in 1822 for $19,000. He needed iron for his steam engine company in the city. It ceased working by 1846 as new smelting technology, plus the higher quality of coal and iron ore in Pennsylvania.
This looks like such a fascinating place to visit. So historical. Exactly the kind of place I enjoy!
