lumen print Lily by ingrid2101

lumen print Lily

Nearly disastrous experimental Sunday. Tried the caffenol development, please if anyone is going to try do not ask me for advice. Mixing first batch and it started to bubble everywhere - out of the container and all over the kitchen. Second batch was successful, used a larger container but NOTHING, completely blank. After getting some advice on a group it sounds like I need pure Vit. C not the lemon and lime effervescent tubes - oh well you live and learn. Thought then about getting some work done for college. I'd seen images on Flickr about cameraless photography so thought I'd give it a go. Basically the plant is placed on a sheet of photographic paper in sunlight and the moisture from the plant starts a chemical reaction and discolours the paper. It is then fixed in normal fixer.
I'm tagging this for analogue april - i know there's no camera but it must be analogue surely ?
Definitely analogue. Funny about the vit c though, made me chuckle a lot. What a bizarre image which is explained by the production method. Please keep these new tevhniques coming! @bob_the_dog was given a cardboard pinhole for xmas that has been gathering dust. Think we might need to give it a go

April 14th, 2013
I like how you share all the gory details of your process! I love the final look, it's incredible.
April 14th, 2013
wow!! love this! So you just put into fixer, no developer? How cool that you get these colors from that. I must try this.
April 14th, 2013
Love your fearless sense of adventure, Ingrid ... and love this unique and explosive image as well!

@denidouble Thankfully my husband isn't bothered by mess as there's photog stuff everywhere!!
@masosy Thank you Kate! I haven't exposed it for long enough but if you ever go on flickr search Lumen and there is some incredible work there :)
@vase Yes!! In daylight too, although I nearly forgot when taking paper out of the packet - so simple, I'm going to leave a few outside when I go to work. Just fix it then - I scanned this before fixing as I didn't know if it was going to change colour . Check out Flickr though - some amazing work and folk have toned it after - more supplies needed!!
@wendyhgill Thank you Wendy! Glad you like it!

This is beautiful. Love that light blue/turquoise colour. How long do you leave the plant on the paper for?
April 15th, 2013
@rachelwithey Thanks rachel - I think this was about an hour but it's recommended for 3-4 hours some even doing days, definately one I'll do more of as it's so easy! Oh and it seems that different papers go different colours and some people gold tone - so many possibilities. You should search images for Lumen on google and there's some amazing work out there :)

April 15th, 2013
@rachelwithey Oh thank you so much Rachel, they'd love it = I've done photograms with my kids but this one is new to me (today) so will have to try this too. It also takes away some of the 365-orphan guilt as you're spending time creating with them !!
April 15th, 2013
Well ... this is cool!
April 15th, 2013
very cool bit of art! i think it must qualify as photography given that light is involved... and it's not digital... so analog it must be!
April 15th, 2013
Wow, very cool!
