this photo was going to be about framing sadness and fear...many of you saw my recent photo of these tulips that I arranged as a ribbon after finding out my sister, yes it wasn't a friend, it was my sister, might have breast cancer. I tried to figure out today how a photographer might frame sadness and fear after her visit to the doctor who confirmed she has breast cancer. This is my second sister that has it and the 4th person in my extended family (two of my cousins also). Our family is struggling as you might well imagine after losing one daughter/sister because of it. My 91 year old mother is really a wreck. In about two hours time, after seeing the surgeon next, she was told that she had a very good prognosis...lumpectomy, followed by only radiation...if, when they do the surgery, nothing else is found. The doctor happened to have an opening for surgery this coming Monday, he looked like her best friend's son, and my sister was totally comfortable with him for only having met him for the first time. It turned out to be a not-so-horrible-not-so-very-bad-day after all. Thank God! This would have been a much different picture if things came out another way...prayer works.
Feeling glad that this wasn't such a terrible day, but sending you, your sister and the rest of your family many many positive thoughts and hoping everything works out. X
@hippiechick13 thanks, since the visit with the surgeon she has a noticeable improvement in her attitude...so thankful for that. again thank you for your prayers and concern!
@aat3877@vstap thank you both. It has been quite a week since we found out and now it is a little better if cancer can be better in any way. I appreciate the prayers the most!
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Jackie. Stay strong and I'm sending you positive thoughts. Your photo is awesome and depicts the emotions really well.
@bonsai@samzee thank you. We are all going to breakfast tomorrow and I think it will be a time for us to get everything straight, the details are hard to get right at times like these, and just to show each other our support. I have a wonderful family, God truly blessed us as we got older and really needed to come together in some tough times! Once again, thank you.
I think this photo is perfect. Having had a grandmother, my mother, and two aunts with breast cancer, I understand the emotions. Prayers for your family during this time.
@lisamccloskey thanks Lisa. So many people affected by all types of cancer, it's heartbreaking. I appreciate you commenting and most of all the prayers you have offered.
@kimdavis usually wear my heart on my sleeve...don't hide things well at all. Surgery went really well...trying to figure out a photo to tell the story from this side now. Thanks for the prayers you know how much they help!
I am glad the surgery went well. And it is great that you can also express what you go through in pictures! All the best for your sister and everyone in your family.
Again, I can see your feelings of sadness in this picture. Well done. I like how you pictured the flowers without water (synonym for hopelessness?) and that the one flower is hanging from the shelf. Photography can be a wonderful outlet to deal with all kind of emotions.
@vera365 thanks for the good wishes and it is good to be able to use this art form for expression...sometimes you can't even talk about the feelings and can use this to get them out!
