Experimenting with Snapseed editing - changing the focus, contrast, saturation, and crop (thanks to @darylo.) Not sure any of these really work, but I’ve had a hard time letting go of the image because of the colors and memories of a great trip! Your thoughts?
Well, I think you have a few options, all of which in my mind have to do more with some potential crops to highlight the colors. To me, the right curtain is distracting and takes away from the color of the building in the background, which complements the foreground. I might also crop out the bottom because the hanging structure is dominating the right third of the shot.
Another crop could be more drastic--not sure it would work, but let the crop include all on the left up until the copper part of the structure.
I think this is more an issue of you probably backing away from the subject a little bit--BUT, look at the lovely starbursts on the blue lantern on the left side. If you can play with lowering highlights, they just might pop a bit more.
And last suggestion--and truly, I'm just floating ideas, maybe a little vignetting?
All I know is that I sure wish I was standing in this spot taking in the amazing view! I can tell you were in an architectural heaven of some sort!
@darylo Thanks for your ideas! I actually just reposted a collage of a few tries I’d made earlier this eve, but I’ll try working with cropping now, as you suggested. Again, your input is very appreciated!
They're all quite nice, but I kind of favor the cropped lantern with the flowers and background out of focus. It's great you take time to play with editing options.
I think I'm a bit late to the game here, but I'm liking all this experimenting you're doing! Personally, I like the closest crop as it highlights the basic form and colors I"m drawn to without all the background distractions. They're all cool, though. So many ways to go with this one--great job!
