4th book of 2015! A historical fantasy that is set in late 19th century New York City. The main characters are, a golem "woman" who is created out of clay by an evil wizard and a Jinni who has been trapped in a cooper flask for a thousand years and bound by an iron cuff. They live in New York City in the Syrian and Jewish neighborhoods. The author does a great job of weaving fantasy creatures into a real life world of people from many cultures, all trying to survive in a New World far from their original homes. She also provides an interesting historical view of the cultures that the people and the creatures left behind,over the last thousand years, in the Middle East. Surprisingly, I found it a captivating page turner. Not my usual read! That's what I love about Book Club, it helps me to read books that I wouldn't pick up otherwise.
