1st book of 2014!! Wow! It’s been a long time since I actually finished a book! This one finally satiated my hunger for a “can’t put it down” novel. If you loved “The Secret Life of Bees”, you won’t believe this one!! An amazing story, of an aristocratic southern white woman, Sarah, and an urban slave that she befriends instead of “owns”, Handful, and their parallel lives. One, who’s journey is to free the slaves, and fight for women’s rights, and the other who’s journey is to climb from the bowels of slavery. The author does an incredible job weaving factual history into an amazing story, depicting the truths around the unconscionable times in American history during the early 1800’s, and the women who fought for abolition and women’s rights. A MUST read for a truly wonderful story AND a history lesson!
