Cardoon in church yard

We spotted these cardoons whilst walking in the church yard between heavy showers.

I have not heard of these - they look like a cross between artichoke and thistle! Amazing design. Must look out for them.

@casablanca I think that they were popular in the Victorian era? Something akin to an artichoke, not something I fancy though ....
