Day before Spring Break by joysabin

Day before Spring Break

For the current tag challenge, my words were: food and school. This is the Student Union at Norther Arizona University on the last day open before Spring break.

I think that its best viewed on black, if you can
Great idea to turn it into a sketch. Very nicely done.

Well, you certainly conveyed the feeling of food and school. I like the effect you used. Looks like more fun. I was at NAU this past summer. Took some fun pictures of my daughter up by the big lumberjack. Lovely surroundings.

A great image and love the processing with all the strong lines from the tables.

Strong processing -- it makes the one figure stand out in the sea of chairs. Only later did I notice more of them.

Interesting editing style, those pipes look so huge!

@miata2u Thank you, I found out after I snagged this shot, that I needed to have permission to takes shots inside of the Student Union. A sketch seemed like I wasn't breaking the rules.

@eudora Thank you very much, I did this in paint.net.

@mbrutus Thank you, I didn't know that I had to have permission to take shots inside, maybe I should have asked. The sketch option in paint.net helped make a dark, underexposed shot a tad better. Louie Lumberjack is a very cool work and NAU has an abundance of art on campus.

@megpicatilly Thank you, the pencil sketch really made this better since I really underexposed my shot.

@taffy Thank you very much, the pencil sketch gave this much more character than just the straight image.

@stephanies Thank you so much, I think that the semi industrial style must have been popular when this building was built. This campus has been adding buildings right and left and some say that the true spirit of the school is being ruined.

I agree, it looks fantastic on black - nice processing!

I like the use of pencil sketch here. I am glad you did not get in trouble!

@brett101 Thank you, school was emptying out for spring break so, I needed to grab my shot when I could.

@ukandie I didn't want to 'step on anyone's toes' when I took my shot. Thank goodness for edits.

@joysabin I am sorry that I did not get to see too much of the art, as we were just passing through and my daughter was kind of patronizing me while posing for some gag shots with the lumberjack. As for permission, since it is a public building, I think it's likely okay to take pictures without permission. No person in this picture could claim they were recognizable and I think that no one could say they have an expectation of privacy within large college dining hall. And thanks for the tip about paint.net. I will have to check it out. Google's Picassa (which they no longer support) has some nice features like that. I'm sure that the newer Google Photos probably does too.

@joysabin funny thing. I just tried repeatedly to go to paint.net and wound up each time rerouted to the website for a particular paint store.

@mbrutus Wow, I've had the site on my tool bar for so long that I hadn't thought about googling it. ( http://www.getpaint.net/index.html) try this.
