A bone found by me last year for a Halloween themed shot has been found and claimed by Riley. I tried Winona, Winoah but she responded to the "E" sound better so, that is her name.
While enjoying her new treasure, the local squirrels made some ruckus in the trees. These little squirrels have had my yard to themselves for several years and now seem to be rather upset with an intruder. Hope all works out.
This is also an entry for the current tag-challenge. My words were dog and dinner.
My dogs had their registered names but were always called by about half a dozen different pet names depending on the day or mood. ;-)
Riley sounds good.
Riley is good, very good. 2 short syllables are more easily recognised by dogs...than more. Also in moments of concern etc. when a dog needs to be closer to his/her owner, a short name call is more effective.
Cute photo, and loved your story. She is so pretty! When I started caring for my feral cats, the squirrels disappeared but then returned. The cats like to watch them, and I think it's a challenge for the squirrels to taunt the kittens. My bigger problem is that my birds are gone, too--but the whole neighborhood has the same complaint. I'm wondering if it's too many feral cats, pesticides, other predators...?
@eudora Thank you. When a new 'neighbor' moves in all things must re-adjust. Riley is beginning more comfortable each day.
@fbailey She may never give up, she is such a gem.
@overalvandaan We feel so lucky to have her become part of our family.
@blueberry1222 She is such a sweet thing, I can't believe someone just 'dumped' her on the Rez.
@claudiet She is a small one, about 23lbs but she is smart as a whip. She and I will be attending obedience classes very soon.
@yrhenwr She is such sweet one and smart. I'd better watch out...
@vignouse She is so smart and gentle. She will be a great photo-dog buddy for me.
@s4sayer I agree that 2 syllables seem to be the best. She is beginning to respond to her name. Her personality is so very gentle. I am amazed that she was just left on the Rez. We are so lucky to be her humans now.
@rhernan How completely cool. What breed is your RIley? Ours is just a gem.
@octogenarian The Vet thinks that she might be a pure bred but, all that is important to us is that she is happy and healthy. So very grateful for the fav, thank you.
@jo38 He had to 'to take the bone' because it was cracking into big pieces. We have replaced it but she keeps looking for it. I hate being the bad guy but sometimes its necessary.
@tstb13 She will be keeping me busy. I appreciate that she keeps me moving at a good pace. My other dogs have been older and more set in their ways. She may be tiny but is full of lots of energy.
@samae She did but we felt that it was too brittle for her since she was shredding it fast. The bone has been just out in the yard for about a year so I am not surprised. We did give her a replacement but it hasn't been the same for her. Ah well, live and learn.
@henrir She is answering to her name a bit now. I did get her a tag with her name on it.
@jernst1779 Thank you so much. She is hopefully going to be my photo-buddy and join me when I go shooting.
