Inner Basin by joysabin

Inner Basin

Went to the other side today. I drove to see what the east side of the San Francisco Peaks looked like after our recent snow.

This is a quick pull off the highway and snag a shot. The inner basin is really where the mountain blew its top off some 80,000 years ago. The remaining mountain now is 4000 feet lower with 5 new peaks and a grand valley in the center. The valley is called Locket Meadow and has a beautiful grove of aspens which are amazing in the fall. The road to this area which is NOT for the faint of heart to drive, is closed this time of year. Often when the aspens turn golden, they can be enjoyed from some distance. There is also a very lovely trail but probably beyond me now.
What a stunning view. Very dramatic in b&w.fav

What a beautiful picture. Ansel would be proud! I have been looking back over some of your recent shots of the snow. This must be awesome. In Auckland NZ, if the temperature drops to +10c (50f), we thing the world is ending. Fav.

@mzzhope Thank you so much for the fav. I had forgotten my filters at home so I thought nothing would come of this. I remembered my sunglasses (clip ons) and hoped the clouds would snap. The tweeking in Affinity Photo helped too.

@amyk Thank you a great deal for the fav. I can't complain the area, this part of Norther Arizona is just packed with national parks and monuments.

@golftragic Thank you most kindly for the fav. The filter (my sunglasses) worked in a pinch. I hadn't seen this view of the peaks before, glad I was looking over when I did.

@gardenfolk Thank you so much, very thankful for the fav.

@onewing Thank you a great deal.

@pdulis I am very grateful for the fav. Some times the best shots just show up when you least expect them and we get lucky.

@deanr I am honored by the fav and your kind comment. Living here is a true gift, the ice that comes with the snow isn't my favorite but I have cleats that attach to my boots if I feel crazy enough to go far from my hot chocolate :) :)

@jernst1779 Humbled by your comment, I might go back with a zoom lens since I only had my 16-55mm kit for this camera with me. Some day, I'll plan better :) :)

@haskar Thank you so very much, truly appreciate the fav. My filter de-jour was my sun glasses- sounds crazy but it worked :) :)

@radiogirl Thank you so much. I can't take credit from Mother Nature, she is always my favorite artist.

@francoise Thank you so much, very grateful for the fav. I must thank my sunglasses for stepping in as a make shift filter.

@pistache Very thankful for the fav. I am playing more with Affinity Photo's edits. I am liking their presets but mostly, that I can open a raw directly and not go through the DNG converter. My version of PS is 2011.

@ninaganci Truly appreciative of the fav, thank you.

@ziggy77 Thank you so very much for the fav. I think that snow shots often demand monotone, of course edits really help too :) :)

When even the mountains are dwarfed by the big sky.
