The Daring High Wire Act

Sub Saharan African Pin Tailed Whydah song bird.
This species was introduced to southern California in the 1990's. The species is a brood parasite, meaning that females lay their eggs in the nests of other bird species, fooling the foster parents into raising the pin-tailed whydah chicks at the expense of their own babies. This species is a part of 100 species of brood parasite birds that have other birds foster their eggs.
This one I photographed in Fountain Valley, CA in Louise's backyard.

Wonderful tail but less wonderful life style. I guess it is all about survival of the species.

What a beauty but such a sad story of them laying their eggs in other bird’s nests! Just like our cuckoo in the UK.
