My friend Louise took this last night while I was making rhubarb mimosas in the kitchen. Nigel did a good job for 6 of us - we celebrated the ‘end’ of Lockdown 1 the same way so it seemed appropriate. A good night was had by all, large amounts of scrap wood went up in flames (sorry @fueast - it’s only once a year) and the blankets have aired out the smoke smell pretty well today.
Weather: still an annoying cold wind but hot if you can get out of it
Covid: thank goodness useful stuff is being sent to India
Good thing: the robins brought their babies to the feeders
How inviting Judith....this is where the ownership of large amount of knitted blankets come in....yours of course are particularly beautiful. A bit chilly in the non sheltered parts today...not as hot as the last two days.
@judithg I'm going to expand my section on this tomorrow. As a result of being nudged by your public health incident I found a new review paper on the chemistry.
@phil_howcroft Nigel now has the compost heaps sorted to his satisfaction and announced that, ‘the next job is the fence’. We have 200 ft of fence to sort out - too expensive to do the way I’d really like with concrete posts and panels and also v difficult to access in places so it always gets talked about for a long time and botched up!
@bkp yes I stewed some rhubarb and added honey then strained it. Straining rhubarb is pretty tricky and I ended up pushing it through a colander. I’m not sure I’d worry about straining it next time. It was half and half with Prosecco and went down well. In theory it should have been forced pink rhubarb but I didn’t have forced as by rhubarb patch is behind the bench in the photo and just ready!
