You’d be forgiven for forgetting me at the moment! I need more headspace... Anyway it’s good news that dad has decided to go for a care home when the NHS releases him and there is a space in the one he favours. In fact it’s a very nice room and the home has an enormous garden and very friendly staff. I’ll be heading back down south again next week to sort things out for him to take in.
Weather: I forgot!
Covid: under 40’s will get Moderna or Pfizer because we’re in such a low risk position at the moment
Good thing: kind carers
Oh, gosh, I wish you well for the next move for your dad. I'm so glad he's decided that himself as it bodes well for him settling down with a minimum of disruption. My dad still hasn't really settled. He's not a mixer, and I think he's lonely as he won't leave his room. He phones me all the time, and I have to keep going through all the details of why he can't go back to his old home. Funnily enough, I've just given him his binoculars, as he overlooks a golf course, but I must suggest to him to watch the birds though, as that would interest him more.
@jamibann he has to quarantine in his room for two weeks but it looking forward to a bit of socialising I think. He likes his own company as well so we didn’t go for a smaller place as we thought he might not be able to get away. I do hope your dad settles - my mum never really did but that was the dementia and she was also miserable at home - she wanted to be back in 1986 and we couldn’t fix that. At least visiting regulations are starting to ease and hopefully you’ll be able to get in there and encourage him out of his room.
Hard decision Judith but good on your dad for facing up to his needs...will be such a load off your mind! Brave dad!
My mum had numerous stays in different nursing homes but only ever lasted two weeks at the most before begging to go home again which we let her. It was horrendous as she used to ring in the middle of the night when things fell off her bed etc. She never stayed long enough to get assessed so we had the bills to pay for every stay! She hated mixing too & stayed in her room.
I sympathise with you all plus your fathers! @jamibann
