Music in the park

After a busy day yesterday we had a slow start this morning, both of us with books to finish. The sun was out and there were dragonflies buzzing around the garden which took me back to a student holiday we took to the south of France in 1985. We stepped off the TGV which was smart, clean, air-conditioned and quite a change from the rattly British trains of the 1980’s to be met with lovely warm air and huge, buzzing dragonflies that were just the right side of scary! In fact a girl on a wildlife trip we took good burns on her ankle from the wings of one that was trapped by her foot. I was trying to remember how we found the hotels we stayed in pre-internet and recalled that there were boards at the railway stations with photos of cheap hotels with room prices and we chose one of them that was cheap but not TOO terrible looking.

Weather: really lovely
Covid: dropping fairly fast locally luckily because it’s been really high - will probably swing back because of the schools.
Good thing: folk music on the park with a lovely family vibe. Nice to see toddlers who’ve only experienced Covid-life jigging about and clapping.
How lovely. I often do the 'how did we do things before the internet' game... I am actually seriously starting to forget.

Rail tickets for example. You could obviously turn up and buy them on your day of travel, but how did you buy those cheap advance tickets? Apex fares they were called. By phone? Or did you have to go to a station in advance and buy them?

Looks scary for a gal who lives where Delta is supremely high

A lovely opportunity to get out on a beautiful September day!
Life was difficult before pre-internet...we just didn't realize it then. ☺
