In the run up to Christmas, when temperatures were hitting -10C, these little violets were looking decidedly dead, but as soon as the thaw came they sprung back to life as though nothing had happened. They are the only colour in the garden and have been battered by rain all day. I would have liked more time to get a better shot but while my back was turned Monty the dog was having a great time digging up all my spring bulbs and covering himself from head to toe in very wet compost. Not quite so pretty as the violet....
