I went back to Impington Mill to take a few shots closer up as it was Open Weekend. The sail was turning here - hence the blur - I was trying for a bit more but the exposure went right off if I reduced the shutter speed. This is standing under the sails (obviously!) which were quite intimidating and I stared up at them turning for so long that I felt sick!! Not only did I make that sacrifice for a shot but I was persuaded inside on the promise of photo ops and ended up with a 90 min tour of every cog and gear ratio.... I think I'll post another indoor shot today and try to put together a collage when I get time. This is a full colour shot - I upped the contrast for a bit of edginess.
Sorry to hear it made you feel sick taking this picture, hope it makes youy feel better if I say I think its really very good and make it a fav. looking forward to seeing more pics of the windmill
Makes the sails look so big, you did well ! Lovely lines & ladders & cogs ..it must have been making quite a bit of noise too ! Look forward to seeing more !
Nice one Judith, I always find it strange how only showing part of a subject in the frame often makes a better image than showing the whole subject in the frame. This works really well, looking up and getting dizzy was worth it :)
@happypat Actually it's really, really quiet, amazing given the size and speed of the sails and that the whole cap of the windmill can turn as well - I sort of wanted to duck though - like getting out of a helicopter I imagine.
Is it what is called a Smock Mill do you know? I can sort of imagine what it must be like cos however much you "know" the sails aren't going to hit you, it still seems as if they must. Great shot certainly the result was worth the pain!
great perspective - I'm not sure I've seen a fully working mill in this country - I might have to go find this one (the geek in me would be interested in the cog and whirrings!!) fabulous textures in this too
Did you visit the gardens as well as the mill?
