I noticed from the river yesterday that the Virginia Creeper at St John's College is in 'mid turn'. It was lucky as I thought I had a few more weeks and it's a glorious sight which is short-lived. So I went specially today and I mostly took close up window shots (and one of just half turned leaves which are lovely) but I've gone with this shot to give a taste of the whole wall. For me the trees they have planted in front are getting too big and spoiling the overall view but I didn't mind them from this angle. There is a window shot in my Extras album. I was a but disappointed because I couldn't get 'straight on' without going on the grass. And having been grilled by the porter about whether I was a pro and told not to use a tripod (it turns out he is quite a frustrated photographer himself) I didn't dare set foot on the hallowed turf!
You are so lucky to live where you do & get to see such beautiful buildings ! I think you have got this at just the right angle, I can see your point about the trees & from the front would think they have hidden the façade somewhat but from this angle it's lovely &really well balanced!! The colours very varied & contrast each other !!
Hallowed turf! lol This is a beautiful shot Judith.....so evocative of many colleges. Wonderfully composed so your eye wanders round the picture. Virginia Creeper is a lovely plant in the right place but a nightmare to control!
We had Virginia Creeper on the farm house were we used to live, it always made me feel Autumn was on the way when the leaves turned. your picture is beautiful Judith
Lovely shot!
nice composition on the shot
